Yesterday, I got antsy. I couldn’t sit still. I wanted to get out of the house and go somewhere – anywhere! I wanted to find inspiration, experience something new, make a connection with someone.

Where do you do that? The yarn store!

Well, first Stephanie and I visited the liquor store since I was out of scotch (the Glenmorangie Lasanta was on sale – yeah baby!). Then, we headed up the hill to the Knitting Diva.

After looking at almost every single skein of yarn in the store and enjoying a glorious conversation with other knitters, we left the store with yarn and roving and an extra pair of size 6 needles to make the Owl in the Thicket hat.

I picked Malabrigo Arroyo in Jupiter for the yarn. Taking some inspiration from my dear friend, Lynn Wunder, I also grabbed this darling orange roving from Smoky Mountain Fibers and some felting needles. Instead of the beads called in the pattern, I’ll be felting on the little owl eyes.

You’ll notice there is also a skein of Hedgehog Fibers sock yarn in Oracle. Stephanie’s reward for going to the store was to pick out a skein of yarn for socks to be completed by the end of January.

She’s got good taste, huh? I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised. She picked me!

However, YUM! I’m excited to give it a try on the needles.

Last night, after many little distractions of things like dinner and a flash sale from Slipped Stitch Studios (they are doing 12 days of flash sales right now, and I lost my mind in yesterday’s. Lucky Steph doesn’t have to go shopping for my Christmas present now), I finally cast on the hat.

Not much to look at so far, but I have plans for lots of knitting and Christmas movies this weekend!
